Is anyone else getting fed up with the ';speed limit'; advert rubbish?

They keep on about speed limit for a reason, yes it was, it was 30 as that was roughly the maximum speed of a horse and due to car and horse accidents in the 1920's the maximum of a horse was adopted in town. The same analogy was adopted in 1966 with car speeds, the basic cars, Morris 1000, A40, Triumph Herald and most motorcycle combos had a top speed of about 70 to 75 and to reduce accidents with powerful cars overtaking the blanket limit of 70 was adopted, the inference being no overtaking so everything would go at 70. Any prat that says its for economy etc is having you on, I built my mini in the 70's to have a top speed of 90 with best economy between 60 and 70 mph and giving about 35 to the gallon. They bought in a 50 limit, fuel economy soared in hilly regions and did not alter in say motorway use.

Further, assuming the driver had time to see the child then his speed is under the limit anyway.

Agreed. However even cars that have a top speed of 70 does not prevent them doing 70 in a 30 zone. And how do you prevent this? Welcome to the Big Brother state...
The onus always seems to be on drivers , and never on teaching pedestrians to keep off the roads !
Adverts like that are intended to attack your emotions not your intellect, in my opinion, so I don't like them.
